What would you do??

So lets maybe start a little debate, I'm just curious about peoples point of view on this:

Lets say you are injured at a friends house, random accident... what are your thoughts about going after the home owners insurance??  What do you think?

If I had a large deductible on my own health insurance and my child broke his arm while playing on your trampoline, I would probably file a claim on your homeowners insurance. There is no deductible and the claim is usually paid very quickly.
If your homeowners policy already had 1 claim that year it would still be alright. The insurance company gets anxious if you have 2 or more claims in one year or even 18 months.
A broken arm claim is on your liability coverage. A claim on your home that you might make would be a windstorm claim or something like that and the payment you would get for that would be minus your deductible. These are my thoughts.

I wouldn't. I think if we had a friend over playing at our house and they accidently got hurt and then they went after our home owners insurance, I think it would strain our friendship or even ruin it. I think if myself or my children were hurt at someones house I wouldn't do anything. Just my opinion.

Discuss with the friend your situation, explain how there would be no risk to them, and how it would help you out. Anyone who is a real friend would do it for you in a heartbeat...If they aren't a true friend, make a claim, take the money and run. Austin is a nice place...

For those of you who are curious... I'm not planning on making a claim anytime soon, I just have an opinion on this one and I was curious how many share my opinion.

I think it would depend on the situation. The size/cost of the accident and how well I knew the people, etc. I don't know a lot about exactly how it works (since thankfully I have never been in that situation) but some people might be more willing to just pay your bills instead of having it filed against their insurance (like a car accident and they don't want their rates increased). I would love to hear your opinion!

I wouldn't. It was an accident. Accidents happen. It seems like people nowadays want someone to pay for anything and everything that goes wrong. If they see an opportunity to cash out they take it.

I would never never go after someones home owners insurance, call me weird but I would feel guilty. I have insurance to pay for those things myself. I think you are putting your friendship at a huge risk. From what I've observed, most people who get a settlement rarely use it for medical bills, they most often buy crap with it. So really I feel like that is somewhat dishonest. If you legitimately don't have insurance then make a claim, but be reasonable and don't spend it on bull crap. Use it to pay for those expenses you claimed to be needing the money for. I know I'm probably talking about the minority of people, it's just what I've observed. I still love everyone that makes claims on home owners insurance unless it's at my house and then you're on my crap list.

hmm--where did this question come from? I'm pretty sure you know what my answer would be.

A claim on my insurance for something YOUR kid did to himself? Please.

Homeowners insurance is intended for stuff that happens to homes. Not in and on.

It seems obvious to me.
